[Classes 110 (i) and 110 (iii)] In an axial-flow blower, pump, or turbine, the device behind the rotor 8 for converting speed into pressure consists of stationary ribs 12 radiating from a hub core and extending outwards over only a portion of flow area. The ribs extend to the mean diameter of tho flow area and are curved so that no rotary movement arises in the centre of the entrance to the diffuser or draught tube 10. The ribs 12, or the part 17 adjacent the rotor, may be adjustable either manually or automatically by the load. If the hub core rotates, the ribs are supported from the casing.
