[Class 7 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIII] An aircraft engine driving a pusher airscrew, has cooling air passages on both sides of the engine so arranged that the air flows over the engine in the opposite direction to that of flight, its direction being reversed before its outlet in two streams. An engine 2 driving a pusher airscrew 3 is cooled by air collected by two scoops 12 and discharged through exits 23 located on each side of the engine car prop 21, or on the top of a wing surface at either the rear or the front where a region of negative pressure exists. A cooling air fan may be mounted on the airscrew fan shaft. As shown, a further engine 19 driving a tractor airscrew is cooled by air leaving by an exit 25. The exits 23, 25 may be controlled by shutters. The entrances 12 and the two exits 23, 25 may extend round the whole periphery of the car provided they do not overlap. If the engine is located in the aeroplane body the entrances and exits for the cooling air may be in the leading and trailing edges of the wings respectively. The engine exhaust may be discharged by nozzles located in the cooling air exits.
