581,391. Agglutinated fibrous materials. BAYON, H. P. March 26, 1945, No. 7612. [Class 140] [Also in Group II] Fibrous materials are impregnated with vapours and liquids in a rotary perforated basket a enclosed in a jacketed vessel e liquid or vapour is introduced to a central bore in the shaft c by a pipe n carrying pressure gauge p and thermometer q and passes out into the basket through radial perforations d. Liquid collecting in the vessel e is caught up by scoops 1 and returned to the central bore. Liquids are drawn off by pipe s and vapours by pipe x. The apparatus can be used for impregnating fibrous materials with artificial resins. The separate ingredients, e.g., phenol or cresol and formaldehyde, may be introduced and circulated to react in the fibrous materials or a solution of a partly formed artificial resin may be used. Waste fibres such as cotton, linen, silk, or rayon, cotton linters, jute fibres, waste cuttings, or trimmings of sulphite cellulose pulp, or waste wood products may be used as fibrous material. Cotton linters may be treated with chlorinated rubber latex. The impregnated fibres are subsequently bonded together by moulding. Specifications 411,260 and 488,707, [both in Group IV], are referred to.
