634,474. Gas turbine plant. SOC. RATEAU, and ANXIONNAZ, R. Sept. 8, 1947, No. 24672. Convention date, Oct. 7, 1946. [Class 110(iii)] A gas turbine plant for submarine propulsion is arranged for working on open circuit with ordinary fuel and alternatively, on closed circuit with special fuel, for example, hydrogen and oxygen from storage tanks. Fig. 2 shows separate turbines, T1, T2, in parallel for driving the compressor C and propeller H. On open circuit, air is taken in at A and gases are exhausted at Ce. On closed circuit, the gases are cooled at S and liquids are evacuated by a pump P. Gaseous products may be evacuated by a pump V. The pressure in the closed system can be increased by a compressor C1. The quantity of, fluid in the closed circuit is regulated automatically to keep constant the pressure at a selected point in the compressor C. Two reservoirs are used. Gas under pressure is stored in reservoir Re and reservoir Rv is kept evacuated by a pump P. A valve d controlled by a pressure-responsive device r connects one or other of the reservoirs to the closed circuit when necessary. A turbine TAR is provided for reverse running. The turbines T1, T2 may be arranged in series, or, be replaced by a single turbine. The compressor may be in stages driven by separate turbines. The useful power turbine may be in two stages each geared to the drive of a reversible propeller.
