479,064. Cathode-ray tubes. BRITISHTHOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and GABOR, D. July 31, 1936, No. 21302. [Class 39 (i)] In a cathode-ray tube the electrostatic deflecting system is in the form of four plates 11 ... 14 equidistant from the screen and concave with respect to the beam ; the plates may be rounded to form a split cylinder. The ends may be curved to form a trumpet-shaped system. Further electrodes near the screen form a focusing lens and the deflecting plates may form part of the lens ; such an electrode 23 is shown in Fig. 11. As described in the Provisional Specification the curved-plate deflecting system 14, 15, 16, Fig. 4, is used with accelerating electrodes 12, 13 in front of the system, and also further accelerating electrodes 17, 18 ; the electrodes 12, 13 and 17 may be omitted, the deflecting plates acting as the first accelerator immediately behind the modulating electrode 11.
