756,740. Endless-belt or chain conveyers and elevators. MITCHELL ENGINEERING, Ltd., and WEBSTER & CO., Ltd., R. W. Aug. 18, 1954 [June 10, 1953], No. 15959/53. Class 78 (1). A conveyer 6, Fig. 2, for carrying rows of containers 12 through sterilizing or preserving apparatus 1 comprises a pair of endless chains 10, 11, Fig. 3, between which carrier members 7 in the form of I-section bars are mounted in parallel spaced relationship, the flanges 8, 9 of the bars being of such width that when the chains flex, the distance between the flanges of adjacent bars increases sufficiently to permit the insertion or removal of the containers. The chains are arranged in a guide 13, Fig. 4, which is so shaped that the conveyer follows a curved path opposite collecting devices 16, 45 and feedfeeding devices 15, 44. These devices are endless-belt conveyers disposed in shallow troughs. Each conveyer has a stop 34, Fig. 6, consisting of a bell-crank lever which is pivoted at 35. One arm of the lever has a head 37 and a spring- loaded telescopic arm 38 which bears against the side 39 of the conveyer casing. The other arm 40 carries an adjustable stop 41 which projects through a slot in the guide 13 into the path of the rollers 42 of the conveyer chain 10. The stop 41 is so set and the speeds of the conveyers so adjusted that a complete row of containers is assembled on each conveyer 15, 44 opposite to the open jaws of the conveyer 6, into which they roll, between successive movements of the stops 34. The carriers 7 may be mounted only on one side of the conveyer 6.
