[Also in Group XXX] In a forage-harvester of the flail type having a casing 16 surrounding part of the cylinder of revolution 17 of the flails 18, alternative discharge openings 19, 20 are provided in the casing and means 26, 27 are provided for selectively uncovering one and blanking-off the other of these openings. The device is intended to be used in conjunction with a vehicle comprising a load-carrying body 10 fitted with an endlessapron floor 11 and rotary beaters 15, and can be used for cutting crop and loading it into the body through the shoot 19 or unloading the body into a silo through the shoot 20 which is provided with an adjustable discharge flap 21 and hand-lever 23. The forage-harvester is mounted on a frame 13 supported at the rear by wheels 42 and at the front on pivots 14 on the vehicle-body 10, The baffies 26, 27 comprise part-cylindrical sheets with sector-shaped ends 28, 29 pivoted on the flail-shaft 12. The baffle 27 would tend to swing under its own weight so as to mask the flails 18 from the ground and is held in position, to block the shoot 20, by a latch 31. The baffle 26 normally covers an opening in the front of the casing 16 and has a pin-and-slot connection 34, 35, with the baffle 27 so that, as the latter swings downwardly to open the shoot 20, the baffle 26 uncovers the opening in the casing and closes the shoot 19. A flap 39 on the end of the body 10 can then be lowered to bridge the gap between the body 10 and casing 16 and the endless floor 11 then feeds material out of the body to be delivered by the flails into a silo through the shoot 20.
