[Also in Group XXXIX] A vibration - generator is mechanically connected to a shoe member held against the surface of a fluid-filled closed bag, such as an inflated balloon, which reproduces and amplifies the vibrations. The amplifier may form the diaphragm of a loud-speaker or may be used in conjunction with a musical instrument, Fig. 3, in which a frame 35 carries a plurality of vibrationgenerators of different types, both mechanical and electrical, and resonators 51, 52, 53, 54, the vibrations being communicated through shoes 32a, 32b of differing shapes and sizes to an airfilled bag 30 of polyvinyl chloride. The mechanical generators, which may be struck, plucked, or bowed, include teeth 36, rods 37, strings 38, bars 39, adjustable rods 40 energized. by friction on glass rods 42, and plates 43. The neck 47 of an independent stringed instrument may rest on a support 45. One electrical generator 44 acts on the frame 35 and another 55, acts directly on the amplifying bag 30. Further bags 34 may be provided, also dampers 49 and means 33 for removing one or more of the shoes 32a, 32b to alter the response of the bag 30.
