摘要
A carbon article is produced by moulding crushed coal at or above atmospheric temperature and baking at a temperature of 1000 DEG C. or above. The moulded article may be graphitised by heating to a temperature of 2000 DEG C. or above. Coking coal, i.e. coal having a carbon content of 80-85%, a volatile matter content of 30-50%, and a fuel ratio of 1.0-1.5, is moulded under a pressure of 250-1000 kg./cm.2. Coking coal, i.e. coal having a carbon content of 85-90%, a volatile matter content of 15-30%, and a fuel ratio of 1.5-4.0, is moulded under a pressure of 500-2000 kg./cm.2. The coal may be crushed to less than 200 mesh. Tables and examples specifying moulding temperatures and pressures are given. Various carbon articles are specified.
