摘要

Fibres and foils composed of aromatic polyesters are treated at room or elevated temperature with a swelling agent which may be dissolved in an organic solvent and which is allowed to diffuse into the materials under conditions such that there is no detrimental chemical reaction therewith. The swelling agent may be applied in a steam atmosphere and after excess liquid is removed the materials are dried and may be subjected to a thermal after-treatment, e.g. in a steam atmosphere which may be under increased pressure at temperatures from 80 DEG C. to 200 DEG C. Fibres may be treated at any stage of manufacture or as hanks, balls or on bobbins, or as staple or woven or knitted fabrics may be treated. Amongst the swelling agents epecified are diphenyl, chlorbenzene, benzoic acid, glycol mono-butyl ether, phthalic acid dibenzyl ester, toluene sulphonic acids, dioxane, caprolactam, benzoin, 4-ethoxyphenyl-urethane, benzoylamino-benzoylmethylglucamide, naphthoylamino - benzyl - pentaerythrite and reaction products thereof with ethylene oxide, quaternary ammonium compounds and many primary, secondary and tertiary amines, diamines, amides and the salt of b -[Nmethylbenzylamino] - ethylbenzoate with b ethyl-hexylic acid. Solvents which may be employed are industrial methyl and ethyl alcohols. The treatment improves the absorption of the fibres for disperse acetate dyestuffs and vat acid dyestuffs. In examples: (1) a heat set polyethylene glycol terephthalate fibre is impregnated with a methanol solution of formaldehyde diphenylacetal at 60 DEG C. and after squeezing and drying is steamed at 130 DEG C.; (7) polyethylene glycol terephthalate staple fibre is treated at 100 DEG C. with a solution of polyethylene glycol in dioxane. After rinsing, it is dyed with a liquor at 95 DEG C. containing 1methylamino - 4 - b - oxyethylaminoanthraquinone and soap; (35) a hank of polyethylene glycol terephthalate yarn is treated with gaseous dioxane above boiling dioxane.ALSO:Fibres and foils composed of aromatic polyesters are treated at room or elevated temperature with a swelling agent which may be dissolved in an organic solvent and which is allowed to diffuse into the materials under conditions such that there is no detrimental chemical reaction therewith.
