Apparatus for making Eccles cakes and the like comprises means 13 for feeding a sheet of dough on to an endless conveyer 11, means 15 for depositing measured quantities of " filling " on to the dough, means 16 for feeding a second sheet of dough on to the first sheet and the fillings thereon, knives 19 for slitting the layers into, e.g. five strips, means 20 for pressing and trimming the dough layers and means for piercing the top layer. Means 23 and 231 may be provided for " dusting " the conveyer and dough respectively with flour or sugar. The dough feeding means 13, 16 may be as in Specification 881,684 and the filling depositor 15 as in Specification 999,022. Specification 906,940 also is referred to.
