During sinking of a well casing into the ground the casing is detachably secured according to its diameter to the appropriate one of a number of concentrically disposed skirts on the lower surface of a vertically movable support through which extends a conduit for supplying liquid under pressure to a jetting pipe secured to the underside of the support concentrically of and between the conduit and the innermost of the sleeves to adjacent the lower end of the casing. When the casing has been sunk by the jetting away of soil from the foot of the casing the support is uncoupled from the casing and removed with the jetting pipe from the casing. During the sinking of the casing jetted away soil is carried by the liquid up between the jetting pipe and the casing through openings in the support.
