Synthetic resins, condensn. prods. and/or (co)polymers are rendered fireproof by incorporation of an inorganic salt (I) which releases water at high temps., together with an organic substance (II) which decomposes and generates a non-combustible gas when heated, the organic substance comprising melamine, cyanamide, dicyanamide and/or a resin contg. these cpds. The flameproofing combination of (I) and (II) can be used in large number of resins, partic. synthetic condensn. prods. such as cresolic resins, melamine resins, phenolic resins, dicyanodiamide resins, and phenyl-borate resins. Resins or plastics contg. (I) and (II) will extinguish almost immediately after a flame is removed from them and are partic. useful for the prodn. of construction and soundproof panels.
