A Fourdrinier Paper Machine with device to Counteract Deflection of Driving Couch Roll

A Fourdrinier paper machine comprises a Fourdrinier wire with. a forming run, a driving couch roll in the forming run, and a deflection-controlling roll touching the couch roll in line with the resultant of the deflecting forces on the couch roll and counter-acting them. The deflection-controlling roll may be a crowned roll or a variable-deflection roll deflected by pressure, e.g. that of Specification 1,059,366 or that of U.S.A. Specification 3,060,843. As shown, a headbox 13 supplies pulp to the space between upper and lower wires T and F. Suction slices 25 are mounted above the upper wire at the off-running sides of rolls 24 to remove water. The roll 17 holds the web on the lower wire where the two wires separate. The lower wire F is driven by a vacuum couch roll 19 which forms a nip with the lump-breaker roll 20. Deflection of the roll 19 is controlled by the back-up roll 40, which has a crowned rubber-covered surface.
