Polyolefin tape is produced from a blend of (A) 50-90% of a crystallisable poly-1-olefin and (B) 10-50% of any other polyolefin. The blend is melt-extruded as a wide film, drawing is effected at a temp. below the crystallite m.p. of polyolefin (A) in the direction of extrusion and the film is lit into tapes before or after drawing. - The tape is resistant to fibrillation and can be used in weaving machinery without splitting. - The tape is pref. used in the weaving of relatively coarse fabrics, e.g. sacks, carpet backing, braiding and filter cloth. The tape is normally 0.5-4 mils thick and 50-500 mils wide.
