1283734 Jet looms; weft supplying NISSAN MOTOR CO Ltd 6 Aug 1969 [21 Aug 1968 10 May 1969] 39306/69 Heading D1E A plurality of weft yarns to be inserted into a fluid jet shuttleless loom are fed continuously so that each yarn forms a loop respectively in each of a plurality of storage means from which inserting means insert each yarn in two steps into two successive sheds. Yarn feeding means 10 comprising feed rollers 11, 12 deliver weft yarns a, b from packages to first and second tubular storage chambers 13, 14 with respective yarn inlets 15, 17 and outlets 16, 18. Pins 21, 22 slide in slots 19 in the sides of chambers 13, 14 and engage and hold the loop of weft yarn therein. The yarn is carried by gripping devices 23, 24 and nozzles 25, 26 to which fluid under pressure is supplied into the shed 27 and is then severed. In operation, the yarns a, b are drawn in through inlets 15, 17 by air being exhausted from the opposite ends of chambers 13, 14 and passes out through outlets 16, 18. Sufficient yarn a is fed into chamber 13 to provide less than two insertions of weft as the feed continues while the first insertion is made into the shed by nozzle 25. Pin 21 then engages the loop of yarn to hold it and prevent further insertion of the yarn into this shed. While yarn a was being inserted yarn b was being fed into chamber 14 so that it is ready for the insertion of yarn in two successive sheds i.e. that into which the last yarn a was inserted and the next one. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown) pin (21a) is inserted in a hole (31) instead of a slot. In another arrangement, Fig. 6 pin 32 slides along the chamber e.g. 13b externally of of slot 19b through which the weft emerges. The storage chambers may each be made up of a pair of endless belts 35, 38 adjacent which a pin 39 slides. Fig. 10 shows a starting up arrangement which comprises a gripping device 44 which holds yarn a under tension and with sufficient yarn fed for one pick while yarn b is picked manually.
