A coating preparation contains (A) an organic polymerisate containing the norbornenyl group and (B) 5-95% of an acrylic ester and is suitable for coating solid substrates such as natural and synthetic fibres, paper, wood, plastic films, metals, glass etc. and can be hardened by warming, radiation etc. The organic polymerisate (A) is pref. a polyester containing the norbornenyl group in polymerised form: -(COO)CxH2x CxH2x(COO)- (where x is 0-5) and the acrylic ester is pref. of formula: (CH2 = C R1 COO)nR (where R1 is H or CH3, n is 1-4 and R a substituent such as H, alkyl, cyano, cyanoalkyl, aryl, dicylopentenyl etc.).
