[Also in Division E1] A city or structure comprises a number of decks A, B, C, D, E, F, G, suspended by cables between a central column and a ring of peripheral columns, one deck 41 being a flight deck for aircraft. This deck is preferably rotatable. The central column conducts hot gases from a power station 45 which may be a nuclear power plant. This column also provides radio aerials and a mooring point for airships. The sides of the structure are enclosed in sheet material allowing rainwater to be collected in tanks 20. The structure may be built over an existing built-up area or over a coral island. Alternatively the columns may be supported on floating structures (Fig. 19, not shown) or on caterpillar tracks (Fig. 16, not shown).
