1303736 Sliding windows BOUSSOIS SOUCHON NEUVESEL 5 June 1970 [20 June 1969] 27250/70 Heading E1J A sliding window comprises at least two glass panes 6, 7 slidably mounted in grooves in a frame, e.g. of wood, the adjacent edges of each pair of panes 6, 7 having flanges 13, 14 each orientated at an oblique angle to the plane of the corresponding pane when in the closed position, so that the flanges 13, 14 bear against each other along their length and over a part of their widths, thus forming a leaktight closure. The flange may be formed integrally with the pane, as shown, or it may be formed separately and joined to the pane by a resilient sealing member. The flanges 13, 14 may have sealing strips interposed between them. In the case of horizontally sliding windows, the panes may run on overhead rails 35, 36 in the upper frame member 5 by means of rollers 33, 34. The rails 35, 36 are formed with notches 37, 38, 39, 40 down which the rollers 33, 34 run as the panes reach the closed position, so that the panes are given a downward motion away from each other to increase the pressure between the flanges 13, 14 and on the lower frame member to improve leak-tightness. In the case of a separate flange resiliently joined to the pane, the resilient seal may be in an unflexed state with the flange end pane in the same plane, and spring means are mounted on the frame to deflect the flanges together in the closed position.
