The receptivity of elastomeric copolymers contg. 40-60 mol. % butadiene, 59-20 mol. % acrylonitrile and 1-20 mol. % vinylidene chloride towards acidic or basic dyes is increased by introducing 1-10 mol. % of a monomer such as vinyl pyridines, aminoalkyl(meth) acrylates, (meth)acrylamide and (esp.) (meth)acrylic acid, in place of an exactly equal amt. of the vinylidene chloride and/or acrylonitrile. The polymers are made by emulsion polymsn. at -20 degrees to +50 degrees C in the usual way. Products are esp. useful for prodn. of elastomeric fibres by wet or dry spinning of a soln. of the polymer, followed by vulcanisation at 100-250 degrees C. Vulcanised fibres have excellent elasticity and mechanical strength and good resistance to solvents such as tri- and per-chloroethylene.
