Centrifugal air classifier - with secondary classifier system to remove fines from oversize stream

Vessel has a vertical cylindrical separation chamber with an air inlet at its base and an outlet in its top, and a distributor for material to be classified, consisting of a rotating disc. A cap-shaped deflector is positioned coaxially in the separation chamber, beneath the distributor, and intercepts the stream of oversize particles leaving the chanber. The periphery of the deflector is widened in the downward direction, and has a lower edge of smaller diameter than the chamber, and is positioned above a re-entrant section of the chamber wall. An air inlet nozzle opens beneath the deflector, on the axis of the chamber, and fines are carried from the oversize stream by contact with its air stream.
