Hard wax from montan wax and polyethy-lene and/or oxidised polyethyle - wax

Hard wax suitable for floor polish compositions is produced by oxidising a mixture of 1 pbw montan wax and 0.05-1 (pref. 0.2-0.5) pbw polyethylene wax and/or oxidised polyethylene wax with dichromate or chromic and sulphuric acids; working up the oxidation product and esterifying with mono- or polyhydric alcohols and opt. neutralising any free COOH groups with alkali (ne earth) metal hydroxides or oxides. Pref. polyethylene wax has 1000-6000 mol. wt and oxidised polyethylene wax has 2000-6000 mol. wt.
