I Claim : (1) A process for the catalytic ammoxidation of acyclic alkanes to unsatutated aliphatic nitriles comprising contacting a gaseous mixture of the hydrocarbon (acyclic alkane), ammonia and oxygen with a solid catalyst consisting of oxides of antimony alone or in combination with the oxides of other metals and metalloids, the said catalyst being maintained in the presence of a halogen at its surface and at a temperature of 300C to 700C.
