In a jig-saw puzzle teaching toy, the puzzle 20 when correctly formed and positioned by tab 26 in recess 14 defines a V shaped aperture 38 which when a pointer 24 on dial 22 is aligned therewith allows depression of the dial so that a gramophone of the kind described in Specification 1,253,319 plays back information relating to the subject displayed by the completed puzzle. A number of puzzles having differently positioned apertures 38 for selecting a different gramophone record track are contained in the box 16. In the absence of a puzzle a locking device engages the shaft of dial 22 preventing it being depressed except at one position in which the pointer aligns with the tab 26. On being depressed a gramophone track is engaged which plays back instructions for operating the device.
