A biological effluent treatment plant for household or industrial use, esp. for hotels, camping sites etc. comprises a tank divided by a concentric partition wall extending almost to the bottom into primary (central) and secondary clarification chambers. The primary contains a revolving aerating rotor with vertical suspended shaft; effluent enters this chamber and is continuously recycled from and back to it through a sludge disintegration pump; after leaving the primary chamber it is separated into scum and clarified effluent in the secondary chamber whence it leaves through an overflow duct. Sludge is recycled from the scum chamber back to the primary chamber, pref. by an air lift pump, and the whole unit is covered with a roof. The structure is pref. of glass-fibre reinforced plastic.
