Cymarin (k-strophanthidine-D-cymaroside) is an orally resorbable cardenolide for heart therapy and is prepd. by fermentation of Strophanthus kombe seeds at 55-65 degrees C. Activity of strophanthobiase enzyme is not affected by working at 55-65 degrees C whereas activity of allomerase is inhibited. Consequently, only traces of undesired allocymarin are formed and yields of cymarin are increased by 20-30%. Fermentation time is reduced to 20-24 hrs., compared with 3-10 days at 37 degrees C.
