and/or H2SO4 mixt is removed from a gas stream by contacting the stream with a crosslinked, macroreticular, weakly basic anion exchange resin contg. units of a vinyl monomer with =1 heterocyclic ring. The resin is pref. a dry resin contg. units of 2- or 4-vinylpyridine and/or an alkyl-substd. vinylpyridine. The resin is pref. in the form of particles with a size of 0.21-0.84 mm these particles being arranged in a column or bed. Contacting is effected at 50-100 pref. 75-85 degrees C. The exhausted resin is regenerated by contacting with an alkaline material. The gas stream pref. contains 15-50 ppm SO3 and/or H2SO4 mixt.
