Oxidation resisting sintered composite - having superior strength -molybdenum silicide strengthened by niobium

A sintered compact composed of silicide, pref. Mo silicide, and having greatly increased strength, and high m.p., is obtd. by reinforcing the silicide by means of Nb wire, strip or sections. PreF. the Nb is embedded in the silicide powder and the composite is compacted and sintered in known manner. The silicide powder may contain a refractory material or an oxide.
