Yarn or rovings are continuously patterned with irregularly positioned dots by a dyeing appts. which continuously feeds a dyeing liquor to the surface. The yarn or rovings are pressed against the dye feed mechanism by a pressure device which is controlled by signals emitted by a singalling device which operates in accordance with a patterning programme.
