1,198,332. Printing-apparatus. G. RITZERFELD. 15 Dec., 1967 [16 Dec., 1966], No. 57172/67. Heading B6C. [Also in Division B8] Card feed.-The apparatus disclosed in Specification 1,198,331, is provided with a collecting station 230, Fig. 13, for the cards 64, said station being located between the printing couple 184, 218, Fig. 11, and a punching machine (126), Fig. 2 (not shown). Cards are transferred from the station 230 to the machine (126) in dependence on the punching by the machine (126) of data scanned on a preceding card or cards. Each printed card is removed from the printing couple by a stripper 225 and fed by levers 222 and wires 223 to feed rollers 207, 214, slide rails 226, 227 being provided to facilitate the card transport. The rollers 207, 214 feed the cards to the collecting station 230 which is in the form of a receiving box. Before each card reaches the final set of feed rollers it closes a switch 107, Fig. 13, so that a magnet 115 is energized causing a lever 257 to rock via a pawl 239 and a ratchet wheel 241. The movement of the lever 257 raises card-holding means 262 whereby at least one card at the station 230 is moved on to a card-transport table 280 by a transport roller 248. The roller 248 is rotated from a shaft 242 by belts 243, 244 and 247 and is supported by levers which are rotated by a cam device to cause the roller to engage the card or cards. The table is bounded by plates 265, 266 and locking pins 271 are rocked clear on a shaft 270 to allow access to the table for the cards. The magnet 115 is de-energized when the card passes beyond the switch 107. Card delivery.-The punched and printed cards are delivered to a box (279), Figs. 2 and 16 (not shown), by apparatus including a feed table 280, Fig. 15, and a transport wheel 282 driven by the punching apparatus. Each card is engaged around the table 280 by rollers 288 on shafts 285-287, a switch 142 being opened as the card runs over a plate 292 and a guide plate 297 being provided around part of the roller periphery. Each card passes from the table and is introduced through a guide slot 291 so that it closes a switch 325 and energizes a magnet 326 so that a roller 328 is moved to push the card into contact with a belt (320), Fig. 16 (not shown). Drive rollers 301, 302 or 303, 304 are rotated by a motor 307 via a worm wheel 305 and the roller 301 is rotated by a belt (310). A further belt (311) co-operates with the belt (320) to deliver the card to the box (279). The recording by a punching machine is optional and may be replaced by mechanical, electrical, optical or magnetic means. Set-off prevention.-At least one infra-red heater 366, Fig. 11, is provided to dry the freshly printed cards. The heater may be assisted by a current of air and is operated intermittently while each card is stationary or is passing through. The feed device for the data carrier is identical with that disclosed in Specification 1,198,332 and the punching apparatus is identical with that disclosed in Specification 1,198,332.
