The alkyl phosphate or phosphite opt. has partially halogenated alkyl gps. Any light source can be used. The technique is esp. useful for producing a slow, floating motion in free space effect, which is very difficult and expensive to realise by all other trick film processes. Liq. (mixts.) of this type show less fluctuation in the refractive index with temp. than familiar liquids with a R.I. close to that of glass, but it is pref. to keep the temp. constant by cooling to ensure absolute sharpness.
