The positioning of the new gusset centre line is determined by the two body measurements in the gusset zone, lying =45 degrees to the old gusset. When the new centre line is cut, the fabric is pivoted on the intersection to open up the new gusset and close the old gusset, for the dressmaker to seam the joins. The purpose is to provide a simple process to alter a garment by inserting a new gusset.
