1451922 Lubricants and additive concentrates ORE-LUBE CORP 3 Aug 1973 [4 Aug 1972] 36900/73 Heading C5F A composition for making a lubricant comprises a petroleum base oil with 5 to 15% by volume of particles of MoS 2 of a size from 0À15 to 0À9 micron and 5 to 15% of a polymethacrylate VI-improver of the formula where R is an alkyl group of 4 to 20 carbon atoms, the R groups being all the same or mixed, and n is a number providing an average molecular weight between 100,000 and 750,000. An additive concentrate comprises 20 to 88% of the above composition, 4 to 13% of a corrosion inhibitor, 4 to 11À5% of anti-wear agent and petroleum base oil to 100%. The corrosion inhibitor may be a hindered phenol and the anti-wear agent an antimony dialkyl dithiocarbamate. The concentrate may also contain a silicone anti-foam agent. Lubricant compositions comprise blends of the above additive concentrate with mineral oil or with mineral oil and from 5 to 25% of a synthetic diester. The lubricants may also contain minor proportions of any or all of the following: an extreme pressure agent, a pour-point depressant, a detergent. a dispersant, or an additive that has more than one of these functions. Among the hindered phenols listed are some that contain sulphide or amine groups in their molecules. Other oxidation and rust inhibitors are salts of diester dithiophosphoric acids, alkaline-earth thiophenates and p,pSP1/SP - dioctyldiphenylamine. Other anti-wear agents are antimony dialkyl phosphorodithioates. Basic aromatic sulphonates or mahogany sulphonates may be present.
