A lace is produced on a Raschelle knitting machine with lines of cable pattern having one straight edge and one sinuous edge. Adjacent straight edges of adjacent lines if cable pattern are interconnected by chain stitches, and the sinuous edges have loops extending from them perpendicularly to the straight edges so as to form a fringe. The loops on the peaks of adjacent sinuous edges of adjacent lines of cable pattern overlap, and a warp consisting of lines of chain stitching passes through these overlapping loops to hold the adjacent lines of cable pattern together. The lines of cable pattern can be separated to produce lengths of lace edging tape. Several lengths of lace edging tape can be formed simultaneously and the tapes can be easily separated without leaving rough edges.
