The burner is a flat horizontal heating element which separates a combustion chamber into a mixing chamber and a combustion chamber. The mixing chamber has a number of perforated plates for ensuring good mixing of the fuel below the burner plate. The perforations in the parallel horizontal mixing plates are staggered relative to each other. The burner plate is made pref. from a perforated metal plate on which is deposited a porous layer which consists of a metal fibre fleece, a woven wire layer or porous sintered metal layer. These components are welded together. The heat exchanger is formed by a flat convoluted pipe arrangement with ribs for improved heat transfer between the combustion gases and the water within the pipes.
