The superheater is located in the fue channel above the combustion chamber of a water tube boiler, and is bounded by tube walls which are slightly inclined from the horizontal in opposite directions. The flue gas flows horizontal through the channel and passes through bundles of zig-zag superheater tubes at righ tangles to the gas flow. Some of the slightly inclined tubes of the tube walls are connected by vertical tubes which pass through the channel and are taken up in the water tube circuit. The vertical tubes may be arranged upstream and downstream of the superheater bundles and may be provided with supports for the adjacent superheater tubes. The tubes of the lower tube wall may have supports for the lower end of the superheater tube bundles. The upper tube wall may itself be supported from another water carrying element of the boiler.
