An inspection slit is provided in the front panel and extends over the full length of the typing line. The slide rail is located within the machine frame directly next to the slit so that the slides can be adjusted from a rest position to a set position where they are visible through the slit. The setting and release lever is mounted on a support and can be moved along the typing line direction in the machine frame. An opening through which the lever passes is located near to the inspection slit whereby the slit and opening have a position indicator rail located between them. The support for the lever comprises a rocker arm which swivels on a slide rail and moves against the action of a spring.
