Solenoid operated valve for pneumatic or hydraulic control - actuates port cylinder through preset angle, without seals between solenoid and port cylinder

Inlet and outlet ports are located radially at 90 deg. intervals around the periphery of the valve body and are interconnected in pairs by two flow channels located in a port cylinder. By arranging for the port cylinder to be rotated through 90 deg. about the centre axis the valve performs as a 4/2 directional flow valve. The rotary actuation is provided by a rotary solenois comprising a permanent magnet as a rotor coupled rigidly to the porting cylinder and a stator winding. The angle of rotation may either be limited by mechanical stops or by a suitable control arrangement, such as a stepping control circuit. The clearance between the porting cylinder and bore is kept to a minimum and no synthetic seals are used.
