Composite model railway track intersection or loop - uses separate curved elements to build up complete circle

The railway track intersection is derived from a radially arranged system in which the radius of curvature of the track is 9.87 or 9.74 times the length of arc subtended by the radius from the centre of curvature. By employing either single lengths of this curved track or multiples of such lengths it is possible to construct a total length of curved track turning through any number of degrees up to 360 deg. The choice of the numbers 9.87 or 9.74 is justified by mathematical considerations with respect to an approximate value of pi, the square root of ten, and the metric equivalent (2.54 cm) of the inch.
