For the disposal of non-returnable bottles or ceramic containers, etc., the apparatus includes a tube-shaped vessel with a hole in the side, through which a pin is driven by a hammer blow after the bottle intended for destruction is placed within the vessel. A lid on the top of the vessel is hinged in such a way that during the opening movement of the lid a pull rod and lever assembly cocks a spring loaded pin and by closing the lid the pin is triggered off, penetrates the opening on the side of the vessel and destroys the bottle. The lever assembly is accommodated within the hollow of a handle attachment fitted to the vessel.
