The stereo-to-quadrophonic converter, for audio equipment, is connected between the two-channel stereo-outputs and the four quadrophonic loudspeaker circuits. A matrix circuit codes the stereo signals into quasi-quadrophonic signals and passes them to a switching circuit. A standard quadrophonic decoder is also connected to the stereo channels to receive true quadrophonic signals when the latter are being transmitted instead of stereo signals. This decoder is also coupled to the switching circuit. The switching circuit's four outputs are passed via level adjusting circuits to the four loudspeakers forming the quadrophonic replay system.
