Polyethylene glycol hydraulic fluids - prepd by condensing ethylene/propylene oxide with polyethylene glycol monoethyl ethers

New pressure-transmission fluids are obtd. by condensing a gaseous mixt. of 58-78 pbw ethylene oxide and 22-32 pbw propylene oxide with 178 pbw of a polyethylene glycol monoethyl ether fraction, consisting mainly of triethylene glycol monoethylene ether, with a b.p. of 240-270 degrees C at atmos. pressure. The fluids have a reflux compensated b.p. of =290 degrees C, a viscosity of =1800 cS at -40 degrees C, and cause an SBR rubber gasket swelling of 0.5-0.8 mm (SAE 1703-C).
