Assembly element useful for electrical connectors - having projections on spring loaded locking pin to guarantee alignment before assembly

Both alignment and locking are provided by this assembly element, particularly useful for standardised electrical components, such as connectors, where alignment must be correct before assembly. A spring loaded pin (3) is carried inside a tubular housing (4), firmly fixed and located in one part (2) by a hexagon head (6). The pin carries two short, aligned longitudinal ribs (31, 32), one (32) on the projecting portion and one (31) which can move to a limited extent in the slot (40) in the housing. A slotted head (30) allows the pin to be pushed and turned by a screwdriver. In the other part (2), a similar housing (5) is mounted and has a longitudinal slot (53) which guarantees pre-assembly alignment with the projection (32) on the pin. The slot (53) is widened (56) internally, so that after assembly the pin may be pushed against the spring pressure and given a quater turn to lock the parts together.
