Raising the seat (8) and base (6, 7) causes a link (2) to pivot (3). This is transmitted by a rod (21) and link (17) to a long lever (13) which is connected to, and pivots on (12), a bent link (11) attached to the back. The seat describes an arc of a circle about a centre (14) each side of the frame (4). Seat and back follow each other upwards until the pivots (3, 18, 22) on the lowest linkages (2, 17, 21) are in line with that (5) on the long lever (13). As the seat is pulled further out, the back linkage (24, 28, 29) straightens into line and then folds up, until the back is in its original place.
