The separation of a racemic mixture of chiral compounds of the following formulae is described: IMAGE mirror plane IMAGE or mirror plane IMAGE mirror plane in which the substituents are as described in Claim 1. First, the racemic mixture of the compounds in question is converted with an optically active ephedrine to give a mixture of oxazolidine diastereomers. Then, at least one suitable oxazolidine diastereomer is removed from the mixture and hydrolysed with formation of the free, optically active isomeric compound. This compound is then isolated. The abovementioned compounds are suitable as intermediates for the preparation of prostaglandins.
