Preferably X is a group of formula -NH-SO 2 R where R is an alkyl or aryl radical which is optionally substituted by one or more C 1 -C 4 alkyl radicals. The dyes may be prepared by reacting 3 - cyclohexene - 1,1 - dimethanol with an acid of the formula or a salt thereof. The dyes where X represents an amino or hydroxy group may also be prepared by reacting 3-cyclohexene-1,1-dimethanol with 1-amino-2-bromo-4-hydroxyanthraquinone or with 1,4-diamino-2-chloroanthraquinone or alternatively with a compound of formula where X is OH or NH 2 and Y is a phenoxy group or an alkoxy group having up to 4 carbon atoms. The dyes either singly or in mixtures give pink and red shades on synthetic fibres, particularly polyester fibres.
