Cutting prestressed concrete beams to lengths - uses joints formed in green concrete to reduce time of cutting

Prestressed concrete beams are cut into lengths after hardening by forming joints in the open concrete prior to hardening. The apparatus comprises a frame (10), in which are mounted downwardly movable cutting wedges (18), preferably on the lower surface of a vibrating beam (14) which reciprocates vertically in the frame. in front of and behind the cutting wedges are shuttering elements (22) which are adapted to the shape of the concrete sections to be cut and which move up and down in the frame. The shuttering elements may have a downward open U-shaped cross-section, or they may extend in comb-like manner (22, 24) across the whole width of the apparatus.
