Catalyst electrodes, esp. for fuel cells - by moulding synthetic resin-catalyst mixture, and pyrolytically decomposing synthetic resin

Catalyst electrodes for electrochemical processes, esp. in fule cells, are produced by (a) mixing the catalyst or its precursors with a synthetic resin, (b) moulding the mixt., and (c) heat treating the moulding, so that the synthetic resin is pyrolytically decomposed, and the precuros is converted into the catalyst. Mechanically stable electrodes are obtd. having a satisfactory electrical conductivity from powdered catalysts. Good resistance to high temps. and porosity can be controlled so that the catalyst activity can be fully utilised.
