Rapid solution of polyacrylamide in water, esp for papermaking - continuous production of very low viscosity fluid

To rapidly dissolve dispersed polyacrylamide at a concn. of 5-75 wt. % in an emulsion of water in oil contg. an emulsifier in amts. of 0.1-30 wt. % (relative to the oil), and having an oil to water ratio between 5:1 and 1:10, and emulsion is reversed in water. The emulsion is continuously diluted with water in a mixer into which 0.01-0.5 pts. of the emulsion to 100 pts. of water, are dispensed per unit of time; the mixt. being immediately allowed to dwell for 2-5 mins. before the low viscosity fluid so formed is conveyed to the distributing point. Adapts the known technique for rapidly dissolving polyacrylamide in water, to the continuous prodn. of solns. of very low viscosity, which can then be distributed homogeneously in very low concn., in flowing water.
