A safety mechanism that reacts to low pressure provides protection against explosion hazards in duct extraction installations. A flexible diaphragm (20) is mounted on a flanged section (21) located in the top section of a cydone inlet (12). A 'U' section bracket (23) carries a support (24) for a lever (17) that retains (17a) a top cover (14). During normal operation a bias spring (26) causes a central diaphragm rod (25) to hold the lever securely against the cover. When an explosion is imminent the pressure in the duct (12) reduces and the diaphragm is deformed and the lever is moved away from the latching position. The cover is blown clear to allow discharge into a top container.
